Lion on Wood

Lion on Wood

Creation of a lion painted on a 12-inch wooden panel. This vision centered around the majestic subject of a lion. The choice of a wood panel as my canvas added a tactile element to the endeavor, promising to infuse the final piece with a unique texture. Armed with the precision of an Iwata Micron airbrush and a vibrant palette of Createx Illustration colors, I set out to breathe life into the regal creature.

After priming the wooden panel, the Iwata Micron took center stage. The chosen technique, grisaille, unfolded in monochromatic values, capturing the lion’s form and intricacies in shades of gray. With each calculated stroke, the essence of the majestic beast emerged, casting shadows and defining it’s features on the wooden canvas.

The transition to full color began with the application of transparent washes, utilizing the vibrant array of Createx Illustration colors. The airbrush allows me to layer color gradually. The grayscale underpainting served as a guide, influencing the final hues in a transition between monochrome and realism.

The wood panel, now alive with layers of transparent color, revealed the lion in all its regal glory. The Iwata Micron, with its fine control, became an extension of my artistic expression, capturing the minute details of the lion’s mane and the intensity in its gaze. Shadows and highlights unfolded with each pass, creating a three-dimensional image on the 12-inch wooden canvas.

As I render finer details, calculated control over Iwata Micron allowed for the intricate portrayal of the lion’s features. Controlled bursts of lighter tones introduced highlights, emphasizing the play of light on the majestic creature.

Any necessary adjustments were made to ensure the wood panel’s natural texture enhanced the artwork without overshadowing the lion’s presence. The seamless integration of grisaille, transparent washes, and wood grain resulted in a captivating portrayal of the lion that leaned towards realism while embracing the unique characteristics of the chosen canvas.

The final touches marked the conclusion of the creative process. A clear sealant, delicately applied, served as a protective shield, preserving the vibrancy and integrity of the piece. The lion, now immortalized on the 12-inch wooden panel stands as a testament to the marriage of meticulous technique and the subtle texture of the chosen surface. Through the meticulous control of the Iwata Micron and the vibrant hues of Createx Illustration colors, a wooden canvas transformed into a regal portrait of the wild, capturing the essence of the lion in every stroke.
